Stacc's perspective on AI in loan origination
Banks are being asked constantly what agentic AI will eventually do for lending. The more useful question is whether you can show how a decision was reached. A credit decision is a sequence of steps, and every step has to be reproducible for a regulator, an auditor, the borrower, or a bank's own credit committee. Get that sequence right and you can put AI to work on it. Get it wrong and there is nothing for AI to work on.
Stacc describes this approach as credit-native. The credit decision itself stays deterministic and rule-based. AI assists with the work around it, reading documents, summarising a case and drafting a rationale. That is where it improves speed and quality without compromising explainability.
Under the EU AI Act, AI systems used to assess creditworthiness are classified as high-risk, bringing obligations around human oversight, transparency and record-keeping.
